YOUNG GURU | A LECTURE IN SOUND​

SAE Institute New York welcomed engineer, producer, and DJ, Gimel “Young Guru” Keaton, into its doors to speak to the next generation of musicians and sound engineers. Guru possesses almost a two decades of experience working as sound engineering, in production, and as an A&R for the acclaimed Rock-A-Fella Records and Def Jam Recordings. His most notable work with hip-hop icons Jay-Z and Kanye West.

Guru went into detail about his journey through the music industry; talking about his beginnings working as a DJ for Nonchalant, moving to New York and working with Deric “D. Dot” Angelettie, to his role at Baseline Studios and Roc-A-Fella Records. September 11, 2011 marks the tenth anniversary of Jay-Z’s “The Blueprint,” considered by many to be a monumental achievement in hip hop history. This release was also instrumental in launching the careers of famed producer Just Blaze and Kanye West.

Young Guru left both students and faculty extremely inspired following his visit.
